Graduate Program in Mechanical Engineering

Admission

Recent selection processes have been held semiannually, governed by a specific public notice. A committee composed of professors from the PPG-EME is formed specifically to facilitate the selection process and evaluate candidates. Typically, the evaluation considers the candidate’s performance in a specific knowledge exam (according to the Area of Concentration) and a foreign language test, in addition to the Lattes Curriculum.

The selection public notice is permanently reviewed and updated by the Program’s Board. Among the research and graduate funding agencies that frequently provide scholarships to students in the program are: CAPES, CNPq, and FAPEMIG (Foundation for Research Support of the State of Minas Gerais). In addition to these, scholarships granted by companies, within specific research projects, may also be allocated.

International students may apply for scholarships specifically designated for them. In this case, interested parties must first contact the Brazilian Embassy or Consulate in their home country before traveling to Brazil.

To apply, candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related fields, such as Civil, Naval, Aeronautical Engineering, Physics, etc. There are basically three ways to access the POSMEC program:

  • As a regular Master’s student
  • As a regular PhD student
  • As a postdoctoral researcher

Candidate Profile

Applications are open to:
  • For the Master’s, individuals holding a Bachelor’s degree in the following fields of study: candidates with a degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering fields.
  • For the PhD, individuals holding a Master’s degree in the following fields of study: candidates with a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related fields.
Holders of degrees in other areas may be admitted at the discretion of the Selection Committee. If the candidate does not yet have a Bachelor’s degree (for the Master’s selection) or a Master’s degree (or a certificate of completion for the PhD selection), they may still participate in the selection process. However, if approved, presenting the degree or certificate of completion is mandatory for enrollment.

Selection Process

The selection process for the Graduate Program in Mechanical Engineering is conducted semiannually and consists of two evaluation stages:

Stage 1: Knowledge Exam (Eliminatory Phase).

Stage 2: Lattes Curriculum Analysis (Classificatory Phase).
